Facebook Watch Party gets Test Run

Testing has begun on Watch Party, a feature that lets users watch videos together via Facebook Groups.

Facebook Live gets more love

When it comes to video on Facebook, live content simply gets more engagement than pre-recorded but users will be able to enjoy both. Just pick a video, a time, and go.

Watch Party members will be able to interact via comments section or built-in reaction tools. According to Fidji Simo, vice president of Facebook product, more than 1 billion users connect by video through Groups.

As hobbies and passions drive people to connect in larger quantity online, Facebook is looking to make good on Mark Zuckerberg’s pledge to enhance personal connection through his social platform.

Building on what’s already working

A year ago, Facebook allowed friends to hold a separate chat outside of the public feed while watching a video while picture-in-picture was also added for Live video chat.

Live or recorded, Watch Party endeavours to generate a group experience through real-time involvement. Will YouTube follow suite?
